Radiant Silvergun

Fans of classic shoot ’em up games have something to celebrate as publisher and dev Live Wire, in collaboration with developer Treasure, will release Radiant Silvergun on Steam this coming August 18th. That means we’re just a few weeks away from being able to play this classic on PC!

Controversial Switch Release

As previously noted, Radiant Silvergun experienced a rocky launch on the Nintendo Switch. Temporarily pulled from the eShop and having its English trailer set to private on YouTube, the situation led to speculation and disappointment, and some attributed these issues to technical problems like sound and graphics glitches.

Live Wire cleared the confusion though, even reaching out to us directly to attribute the removal to a mixup with the release date and their intention to present the game at the 2022 Tokyo Game Show. The game was soon made available again for purchase.

Here’s what I think about all of this…

The eShop removal debacle shouldn’t be overlooked. Potentially rushing the game’s release and then pulling it from the store created unnecessary chaos. Live Wire’s eventual response was welcome, but the initial handling was mishandled, and it should have cross-checked its marketing department and its upcoming events to avoid disappointing people at first.

If you’re considering buying the game on PC, it might be wise to wait for feedback from early adopters, and maybe watch a bit of gameplay, which we’re happy to provide here at Retro Game Mode if you’re interested!
